The truth About Cooling Mattresses

The truth About Cooling Mattresses

As we have blogged about in previous posts, the temperature of a room is important in helping you to fall asleep faster, staying asleep and having a better night’s rest. That’s because a person's body temperature will naturally peak and decline during the course of a 24-hour day. The higher temperatures will be in the late afternoon and the lowest temperatures at approximately 5 a.m. Sleep usually begins when your body temperature drops, so a cooler room can encourage a more restful night’s sleep.

Ideally, people should sleep in a cool 65F-degree room, or somewhere between 60F and 67F degrees. Ultimately, it’s really about how you feel and what you are most comfortable with, but these are general guidelines to try if you are looking to improve your quality of sleep. Studies have shown that a warmer sleeping environment may increase the likelihood that a person will wake-up throughout the night.

Hot sleepers will try a variety of techniques to find greater comfort at night. This can mean blasting the air conditioning or having a fan blowing non-stop. If lowering the temperature of the room doesn’t help with night sweats or if you are still feeling hot throughout the night, then you might want to try a mattress or pillow with cooling properties.

There are many factors to consider when purchasing a cooling mattress. One with multiple layers will be most effective. Note that there is a significant difference between a bed that won't retain heat and a bed that provides cooling relief through the use of various new fabrications and technologies.

The SpineAlign multi-layer construction Luxury Hybrid Mattress is designed to help people sleep cooler. The top layer is made with copper-infused foam that is highly conductive. The copper's conductivity assists in the transfer of heat away from the body to help people sleep cooler and better overall. The team at SpineAlign took the mattress’ development an extra step further and added a second cooling-gel layer comprised of ArcticPhase™ foam. This works in conjunction with the copper layer to transfer away heat.

Other factors that make the SpineAlign mattress a great choice is that it has been carefully engineered by sleep experts and our in-house sports chiropractor, Dr. Jason Loth. The Luxury Hybrid helps people achieve sleep in its most natural state, which might help reduce back pain and promote deeper sleep, so you wake-up feeling more refreshed.

It’s also a good idea to keep in mind the safety of the materials used in a mattress. All of the SpineAlign foam products are certified by CertiPUR-US® and their strict regulations, which means they are low in organic compounds (VOCs) emissions for indoor air quality. It also means our foams are safe from harmful chemicals, including ozone depleters, carcinogens, and PBDE's.

Understand that there are ways to feel cooler at night and find more restorative sleep. A cooling mattress is a great place to start.
